MAN UNITED KIT
I was contacted by a recruitment agency to create a 3D model of Manchester United’s new kit. This was a really exiting project as I had not done garments before. Initially the booking was for 10 days. It all went silent for a while and they came back to ask me to quote on the job but could not give me reference images which was really hard to judge timings. I estimated the job at 6 days. Did not hear back for a week and had time on my hands so decided to create an old kit from scratch… Then got a reply, they loved the work but it had to be done with ‘Marvellous Designer’. LOL! At least I am confident with garments now 🙂
I started the process of creating a polygon shape around a reference photo then extruded the shape to fit around a male mannequin. Then I used C4D’s cloth dynamics to shape the basic shirt to the torso. The next step was to add details such as the collar, seams etc. Next step was to unwrap the whole shirt so the whole thing could be textured. I then used Pixplant3 to create displacement, specular and texture maps. I rendered the final job using Sub Surface Scattering for realism.
